Guitar Gyros

Live Music Done Differently. Acoustic Sets, Top 10 Rock from Every Decade.

About Us

Not a Band, Not Open Mic, Something Entirely Different

High energy acoustic rock with an “MTV-Unplugged” vibe. Acoustic interpretations of rock songs off top 10 rock charts from the 1960s to present day.

Guitar Gyros is a live performing guitar players guild. Our growing membership of talented professional and amateur guitarist share a common love of rock music, a mastery of the guitar, and a passion for entertaining live audiences.

All shows are lead by one of our top ranked members accompanied by a mix of other professional and amateur players. Unlike open mic, all players remain on stage for the entirety of the show. The lead maintains quality, balances volume levels, and selects songs that will resonate with the audience.

Club Owners

All shows are lead by one of our elite members (aka: gig-master). This professional, skilled performer is accompanied by a mix of other professional and amateur players. This is not open mic, all players remain on stage for the entirety of the show. The gig-master maintains quality, balances volume levels in favor of the stronger players, selects songs and chooses singers that will resonate with the audience, and assures the crowd is engaged and entertained.

Songs are selected from Billboard top 10 alternative, rock, and pop charts from 1960 to present and Rolling Stones Greatest 100 Rock Songs of All Time.

We keep things high energy and avoid genres we consider “downers” (folk, soft rock), have narrow audience appeal (classical, bluegrass, death metal, country, jazz), or don’t translate well to guitar (show tunes, rap, disco). Nothing against these genres, some of us play Beethoven at a weddings, Folk at coffee shops, Rap on karaoke night, or occasionally show up at a bluegrass festival with a banjo, but we won’t play that stuff in your night club … Guitar Gyros is an “Acoustic Rock” show and we believe this format resonates best with bar going patrons.

As with any rule, there are exceptions. Garth Brooks Friends in Low Places is technically a country song, but it still resonates with our crowd. Exceptions require a majority vote by our members and must prove worthy to remain on the list.

Although we can’t guarantee specific songs, our players know a wide array of popular songs and can usually figure things out on the fly if the moment calls for it.

Guitarists

Show up with your guitar, plug in, and play all night with other awesome players. This is not open mic – everyone stays on stage for the duration of the show – if you don’t know a song, just watch the lead and follow along.

If you’re a pro, skip endless band practices, lugging equipment, scheduling conflicts, hunting for gigs, constant search for bassists, and lost gigs when your drummer is in rehab … we’ve been there too.

If you’re not a pro yet, being on stage surrounded by pros is the fastest way to learn. This isn’t like open mic, we will assure you are successful on stage, give you the appropriate amount of rope, catch you if you fall, and point the spot light on you when you shine … pros drive our growth and turning you into a pro is a win win for all.

Members are ranked based on guitar virtuosity, vocal skills, and number of songs mastered. A higher ranking translates to more opportunities to lead songs but all members are strongly encouraged to remain on stage for the entirety of the show regardless of rank.

Not all members are paid, but these are “paid” gigs. Profits are distributed with a percentage going to the Guitar Gyros organization, a percentage to the gig-master, and the remainder split between the remaining players above a certain rank.

To become a gig-master you must reach the highest member ranking, own or have reliable access to sound equipment (PA, mics, etc. that meet guild standards), and have the ability to transport, setup, and tear down.
